I’ve struggled with food and developed food issues in my teens. Then I started putting on serious weight as I got older. And since I’ve had asthma from childhood and joint issues (4 ankle surgeries), I really didn’t exercise. At one point I weighed nearly 250 lbs. I knew I needed to lose weight but the idea of having to lose that much weight was overwhelming to say the least. I finally wrapped my head around taking baby steps, realizing if I didn’t do something I was going to stay stuck or keep gaining weight.
I built exercise into my life and managed to lose a few pounds over the course of several years. This helped put a bit of a foundation into place but I still had a long way to go. As I approached my 50th birthday, I reconciled myself to the fact that the weight wasn’t going away by itself and it wasn’t going to get any easier. I noticed a few people in my office successfully losing weight and asked them what they were doing. That’s when I learned about Enara Health. Several things really drew me to the program. It was covered by insurance so it is affordable. Also because of the app and the weekly check-ins, once you’re established, really worked with my schedule. The food log, which was something that had put me off of similar programs in the past, through the app is really easy.
I also liked that even though I was doing the VCLD program, you’re eating real food and making a lifestyle change with a solid transition program, NOT going on a “diet”. After researching the program and talking to colleagues who had done the program I was ready to do it. As I got to know Dr. Bailony and Nicole, who have both done the program, I was even more impressed and committed. They are kind, compassionate and supportive. While it wasn’t easy, and the first couple weeks and every day is still a choice, the results reinforce the decision to do the program and continue the lifestyle changes the program teaches you. I eat in a way that is much more comfortable for me now instead of trying to eat like everyone else.
It’s not just about how many pounds I’ve lost or the new wardrobe or positive response I’ve gotten either. The other numbers, my lab values, really mean just as much to me. I’m so much healthier than I have ever been in my whole life. My gym chose me to be their spotlight member of the month! Me?!?! I couldn’t even run across my backyard as a kid without ending up in the ER. I don’t feel like I’m completing a program successfully. I feel like I’m starting a whole new chapter in a life full of possibilities. And for that I’m so grateful.
